Greetings and the start of Ted Talk Tuesdays…

Hello folks…and greetings on day two of my new adventure here at Central United in Weston. I am thrilled for this opportunity to journey with you over the next year as we build on all of the wonderful things already in place – 200 hundred years of history, great community partners, pioneers in outreach programming and together we can explore what it means to be church in these changing times. I personally believe that there has never been a better time to be the church!

A little about me…I was just ordained in 2015 at the ripe old age of 50 and had been in social services for 20 years prior to that. I have some experience with children and youth, addictions, vulnerable populations and seniors and with that combination was executive director with Big Brothers of Cambridge for 4 years and the Community Resource Centre (a multi-use centre wth licensed childcare, parent and toddler groups, emergency housing, outreach programming) in Centre Wellington County for 10 years. Prior to that I worked in youth support, crisis intervention and addiction support programming. For the past 10 years I have had the privilege of being the minister with Tobermory United Church at the tip of the beautiful Bruce Peninsula. I started as their student and continued on with them after ordination. My time there was soul filling and allowed me to see God in action, in the most unexpected places. And now, I am thrilled to be able to serve here in Weston!

My goals are to be accessible, live here in the community and see where I can help. I love visits, in person following covid protocol if you are comfortable, over the phone or zoom, indoors or out. So please don’t hesitate to be in touch. My home/cell number is 416-268-7592 or leave a message at the church (416) 241-7544 and you can reach me by email at If you know of someone needing a visit or some support, please let me know. On Tuesdays I will be sending a link to a Ted Talk for you to check out if you wish and share with friends. If you haven’t seen Ted Talks before, check them out They are short, thought provoking, current and make for wonderful conversation. Once we are able to gather again informally, I love hosting small groups for a Ted Talk Tuesday events where we watch a couple of Ted Talks together and discuss them. In the meantime, check them out, share them with a friend and talk about them and explore some others!

Ted Talk for this week...a wonderful example of how beautifully, achingly, heartbreaking and amazing life can be!

This week…

• Please check and see if you have any extra balls of wool kicking around the house. Our knitters can use your extra wool to make mitts for Christmas for those who need them. If you don’t have any wool but would still like to help, you can purchase some wool to donate or make a contributions and specifically note it is for the Mitten Program.

• We will continue this Sunday with our Zoom Service by invite – the next e-blast later in the week will include details and also the scripture for this Sunday incase you want to read it in advance. The title of Sunday’s reflection is Trying To Out Run God’s Love.

• We may not be business as usual but some things never change! Volunteers and friends are always needed – help out with the Food Bank Weston Area Emergency Services (WEAS), Weston King Neighbourhood Centre (WKNC), bake for a neighbour, call a friend you haven’t heard from, buy a coffee for the person behind you at Tim’s – love is in the air if we put it there!

• How can you support Central United? Sign up for PAR (Pre-authorized remittance – monthly contributions come right out of your account), drop off or mail a cheque to the church, make a donation by e-transfer, call and have someone come and pick up your donation. Share our e-blasts with friends and family. Volunteer for one of our committees that help operate the church. Zoom in or walk in Sunday morning and see what church looks like in 2021 – you might be pleasantly surprised! Don’t hesitate to call the office and we will guide you in the right direction.

…blessings for your week folks!

Territorial Acknowledgement
Our location on the historic Carrying Place Trail (Weston Road) reminds us that we meet on the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Petun, Seneca and, most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit. We hope this ancient path will be a symbol of our desire to walk with Indigenous peoples in a spirit of reconciliation and respect.
